Fashion changes every week and we embrace most of the trends and changes. Why don’t we embrace the seasons of change on the inside as much as we do it on the outside?
You’d be tempted to say that the older you get, the wiser you get. And the wiser you get, the more open to change and to making yourself better you get. From what I’ve seen, that is not true. I’d say the older we get, the more stubborn we get. And less open to changing the inside. We’re only open to changing the outside. With a few exceptions.
Our lives can be measured in seasons.
Nature marks big changes a few times a year and yet it keeps changing everyday. I hear people complaining a lot about cold weather, rain, autumn, winter and how they don’t like the way the nature changes with every season. Most of them only embrace sunny & summer days. It is hard for people to accept that life is not a straight line, it’s almost a sphere, just like the Earth. And just like the Earth rotates and passes through changes every second, we should be used to that as well, to go through all sorts of changes.
We are more open and accepting to the changes in fashion. They happen more and more every year. They moved from 2 seasons to 52 micro-seasons with new trends coming in every week. Some of us are excited, other are reluctant but no one wears the clothes from 10 years ago everyday so we end up embracing this kind of change.
I was reading Suzy Mendes’s editorial about how fashion is crashing because it is moving too fast. People want to consume more. Want to change more. Want to feel different and have as many experiences as possible.
It seems like people are trying to find on the outside the things that they should find inside. We keep changing our clothes, our cars, our phones, our apps, our friends, our girlfriends & boyfriends, we keep changing everything on the outside and we’re doing it at a speed that keeps increasing everyday.
There’s two things that have the answer to these problems: NATURE and CHANGE. Nature shows us exactly how life & the universe works. How you cannot control some things but you also must let them happen at a certain pace. Speeding up will always result in a crash.
And changing yourself is the answer to everything else. Nature adapts, nature changes, nature allows us to change it and to do exactly what we want. Sometimes it fights back but we still go on with it.
If we would find the strength to stop fighting change and let our guard down, we would find that happiness that we all hope to feel.
Life is change. Nature is change. Fashion is change and if you go past the shallow side, fashion documents the change that people go through, how generations change and how they move around, the social impact is always reflected in the way we dress whether we see that or not. Let yourself be a change too.
I am wearing ASOS olive blazer, ASOS trousers, ASOS shirt, Urban hat and H&M shoes. It was my outfit for the first day of London Fashion Week 2015 and it did cost under 100 euros.
